Launch of New Portable International VHF Transceiver “MHS338GJ” (Revised)

Uniden Holdings Corporation (Head Office: Chuo-ku, Tokyo; Representative: Kengo Nate) is pleased to announce the launch of the MHS338GJ, a 5W output, handheld international VHF transceiver compatible with the common ship communication system, starting in June 2023.

The MHS338GJ combines portability with power, offering up to 5W of transmit output in a compact, one-handed design. It features a large, easy-to-read LCD display, and comes standard with DSC Class D functionality, allowing it to automatically transmit distress signal location information when the DISTRESS button is pressed. The device also includes a built-in GPS, a floating structure that keeps it buoyant if dropped into water, and IPX8-equivalent waterproof performance—features that have earned it high acclaim in the North American market.

Given the increasing focus on self-reliant safety in light of recent maritime incidents, international VHF radios that can send distress signals to nearby vessels or the Japan Coast Guard—even when mobile phones are out of range—are becoming essential for ensuring greater safety and peace of mind at sea.

With more than 50 years of experience and a solid track record in the North American maritime radio market, Uniden is dedicated to promoting reliable and cost-effective international VHF transceivers in Japan to help enhance maritime safety.

Note: Operating this device requires a Third-Class Maritime Special Radio Operator License or higher, as well as a radio station license for a specified ship station.
To use the DSC functionality, a Second-Class Maritime Special Radio Operator License or higher is required.
